Grievance Policy

An ‘open door’ policy is operated by One Degree North for all issues or matters around your welfare and employment. You are encouraged to discuss any problems or concerns that you have on an informal basis with a director(s) in a confidential setting. If you do not feel comfortable speaking to a director. about your concerns you should contact another reasonable management representative.

When raising your concerns you may be asked how you would like the situation to be resolved and it would be helpful for you to have already thought about the following:

  • After you’ve raised the issue what do you want the end result to be?
  • Would it be ok for a management representative to speak to any other individuals involved?
  • In what ways do you think your end result could be achieved?
  • Is it possible for you to resolve these issues on your own having communicated with any relevant parties?

Anything you raise will remain confidential, unless it is not appropriate to do so such as in the event of any individual being put at risk of personal danger, where a criminal offence has, or may have, occurred or indeed where you have agreed for the matter to be discussed more widely.

It is always our intention to attempt to resolve matters informally and collaboratively in the first instance – this may include an informal investigation process whereby individuals are asked to separately engage in a conversation regarding the matter or alternatively it may be necessary to initiate a mediation process. For full details on mediation please refer to the mediation policy.

We will only immediately resort to formal procedures in extreme circumstances such as when an illegal act has been committed, when there is a risk of personal danger or where discrimination, including ‘perceived discrimination’, has occurred ‘at the hands of a third party’ such as a supplier.

Please bear in mind when raising a complaint you should submit relevant evidence to back up your claim. Where you have no evidence immediately available you should take steps in finding such information as this will enable us to fully comprehend your concerns and take relevant action.
