Mental Health and Wellbeing Policy
One Degree North recognises recent statistics, which suggest that, on average, one in four people will experience mental health concerns at some point in their lives. As many factors at work can affect an employee’s mental wellbeing, as a responsible employer, it is our aim to:
- Promote positive mental health and wellbeing through general business operations and interactions;
- Establish open and transparent communication practices and a culture based on trust, support and mutual respect;
- Provide a workplace environment that does not adversely impact employee mental health and wellbeing;
- Encourage employees to take responsibility for their own mental health and wellbeing;
- Provide suitable support and adjustments for those experiencing medical concerns due to their mental health; and
- Encourage a sensitive and compassionate approach to mental wellbeing.
Mental health includes an individual’s emotional, psychological and social wellbeing and in the same way as physical health, it can fluctuate and has the potential to affect an individual’s capability, productivity and experiences at work. One Degree North believes that good employee mental health and wellbeing is key to organisational success and sustainability.
It is our belief that promoting positive mental health and wellbeing will have a number of positive impacts on the workplace, including but not limited to:
- An open, compassionate, flexible and transparent culture
- A heightened mutual trust and confidence between employee and employer
- Stronger employee engagement and satisfaction at work
- Reduced absenteeism and associated costs
- Stronger employee retention rates
