Smoking Policy
Current smoke-free legislation states that it is illegal to smoke in all public places. This covers all buildings owned or managed by One Degree North, including:
- Within One Degree North’s offices (including lifts, corridors, stairways, toilets).
- At the entrances to One Degree North’s buildings.
- Within vehicles owned and operated by One Degree North.
- Within private or leased vehicles used to conduct One Degree North business or to transport a One Degree North employee or client who does not smoke tobacco products.
We all have the right to work in air which is free of tobacco smoke. We also aim to ensure that regardless of whether or not you smoke, you are treated fairly and equally. Although electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) fall out of the scope of smoke-free legislation, the use of e-cigarettes within premises, vehicles or client premises is also prohibited. Whilst e-cigarettes do not produce smoke, their vapour can create an annoyance or health risk to other employees. Therefore, anyone wishing to use an e-cigarette must do so outside.
This Policy applies to all staff members, visitors and contractors: all staff are responsible for ensuring that visitors and contractors comply with this policy. Non-compliance with this policy will lead to normal disciplinary procedures being invoked.
It is recognised that individuals smoking e-cigarettes may not want to use the designated smoking areas and this is acceptable as long as individuals are outside and away from entrances or exits.
