Suitable Alternative Work (SAW)
In some situations, we may be able to offer you SAW if you are at risk of redundancy. All at risk employees are entitled to apply for SAW vacancies and will be interviewed for the position(s). However, there is no guarantee that you will be successful in obtaining SAW position within One Degree North.
If we are able to provide you with SAW and you refuse to accept it you risk losing your Statutory Redundancy Payment.
Protection from Redundancy (Pregnancy and Family Leave)
If your role becomes at risk of redundancy whilst you are pregnant, during or on your return from maternity, adoption or shared parental leave (grouped together as family leave for the purpose of this policy), you will be entitled to be offered first refusal for any SAW prior to any other employees in a redundancy situation.
For pregnant employees, this protection applies from the point you tell One Degree North that you are pregnant and continues to apply for 18 months after either the expected week of childbirth, or the exact date of birth, if you inform us of this, and includes the period spent on maternity leave.
For employees who take maternity leave, protection will apply for 18 months beginning with the date that childbirth occurred.
For employees who take adoption leave, the protection will apply for 18 months starting from the date of placement of the child.
For employees who take shared parental leave, the protected period is for 18 months from when the child is born. You must have taken six or more consecutive weeks of shared parental leave and not taken maternity or adoption leave for the protection to apply. If less than six consecutive weeks of shared parental leave are taken, protection will only apply during the period of shared parental leave.
Our family leave policies and procedures have been developed to ensure that your rights and entitlements are protected at every stage of the process.
