Standards and Expectations
You are required to report to work in the mental and physical condition necessary to perform your duties in a satisfactory manner. Specifically, you must ensure that the use of alcohol/drugs/other substances does not:
- Impair your ability to do your job.
- Impair the safe and efficient running of One Degree North.
- Endanger the health of our employees or any other persons on our premises.
Coming into work under the influence of alcohol/drugs/other substances is a disciplinary offence which may be considered gross misconduct and/or a breach of your duty of good faith to the Company. Each circumstance, however, will be considered on a case-by-case basis and any disciplinary sanction will be at the discretion of the disciplinary officer (although we aim to ensure consistency where possible). If the case involves a pre-confirmed alcohol or drug related problem, a more lenient disciplinary sanction may (in certain circumstances) be considered.
Supplying others, including employees, clients, suppliers or general members of the public, with alcohol, drugs or any other substances on Company property/during working hours, regardless of whether this results in you receiving payment for such items, or not, may be regarded as Gross Misconduct, a breach of your duty of good faith to One Degree North and an endangerment of our reputation, or indeed to be involved in the process thereof: the likely consequence will be Disciplinary action, with summary dismissal as a possible penalty. However, the Disciplinary penalty given will be at the discretion of the Disciplinary Officer and where there are extreme mitigating circumstances, an alternative disciplinary sanction may, in certain circumstances, be considered. Please note that we will notify the police where the dealing of substances has occurred.
We take the issue of alcohol and drug abuse very seriously and where it is suspected that abuse is taking place, we reserve the right to search you and your belongings and request that you complete a test to confirm the levels of alcohol/drugs/other substances in your system.
