Use of social media in connection with your work, will be considered as Company property and we have developed the guidelines below by which we encourage you to abide by:
Be Professional
- Remember that you represent our Company at all times.
- The rules of employee conduct apply to you in the social world as well as the real one – please review the relevant section of the handbook so you are familiar with this.
- Don’t talk about clients/customers or specific projects for them without first having sought written permission from the client and a director. Even acknowledging a client/customer relationship can violate a client/customer’s rights. If in doubt, do not post or tweet and speak with a director.
- Don’t reference work related matters from your personal account. Even sharing/referencing something and linking it back to the company with a hashtag or @ could put you or the company in an awkward situation as once it’s posted it is within the public domain.
- Respect the law including copyright laws and regulations.
- Do not post, share or comment on material that is harassing, obscene, defamatory, libellous, threatening, hateful or embarrassing to any person or entity. Do not post, share or comment on anything that could reflect badly on the company or bring it into disrepute. Do not post words, jokes or comments based on an individual’s gender, sexual orientations, race, ethnicity, age or religion.
- Posting any form of pornography is forbidden
- Before you post a comment or voice an opinion ask yourself, would I be happy for a client, my family or a director to read that? Would I be ok with my comment appearing on the front page of a newspaper? Would I be happy if I read these comments about myself?
- It’s great that you have an opinion and we encourage you to voice it, however, it is not appropriate to attack other companies or people with unprofessional, unsubstantiated remarks. Comments of this nature could make the company liable for your actions and disciplinary action could be taken as a result.
Violating the above are considered breaches of the company policy and are likely to be treated as Gross Misconduct under the disciplinary policy.
Be Truthful, Open and Accountable
- Never plagiarise.
- Be truthful.
- Be authentic. Your use of social media reflects you and the company so think about the tone and voice you’re writing with. If you are collaborating with someone on a post/ blog/ content, make sure all parties are credited.
- Correct mistakes promptly.
- Cite and link to all sources where possible.
- Allow comments on your public content.
- Exercise full disclosure. When you mention our Company, identify us as your employer. Similarly, when you mention our clients/customers, ensure that you identify them as such (providing you have their permission to do so).
- Should you feel a social media post might conflict with your personal interests, you should raise this with the director(s), you may be given permission to reveal your personal affiliations.
- Upon leaving the Company, you should update any relevant profiles to reflect the fact you no longer work for us. You should also ensure that you cease to use any Company owned social media account(s). Usernames and passwords to all such social media sites should be provided to a director before your final date of employment.
