Personal Use
Unless your role permits it, use of social media sites at work outside of your break time (on either company or personal devices) is considered to be unacceptable as it can prove a deterrent to you being able to complete your core duties.
As a Company we do encourage you to have an active personal and social life as this often creates well rounded, well-adjusted and motivated employees. It is important, however, that you refrain from:
- Allowing your personal life to take over your working hours or
- Allowing your thoughts and feelings to influence your decisions about what your write online without having thought through the repercussions.
Whilst we do not actively monitor your personal social commentary, there are often occasions when line the director(s) become privy to your personal information through no fault of their own. On these occasions, and should the social commentary contravene our policies or procedures, we may take action. Social content may be accessible to us where:
- It can be easily determined that your absence from work has been misreported or is not genuine.
- Any form of bullying, harassment, discrimination or victimisation is considered to have taken place.
- You have made inappropriate comments with regards to the Company, a customer or supplier, which can be considered to bring any party into disrepute.
- It can reasonably be determined that your actions or behaviour have contravened a Company policy.
- You may not have been an instigator, but have been party to forwarding, sharing or commenting on inappropriate content.
- You may not have been an instigator but may have been part of a conversation where another person was mistreated, bullied or harassed and did nothing to stop/ report it.
The above should not be considered as an exhaustive list and has been provided by way of example only.
Please refer to the Equality and Inclusion Policy for further details on our position on equal opportunities, discrimination and harassment. We would encourage you to follow the guidelines below with regard to all of your personal social media activity.
