Pool for Redundancy
Where there are a number of employees who carry out the work of the role which is to potentially be made redundant, these individuals will form a pool at risk of redundancy. If the role is only carried out by one individual, they may be in a redundancy pool on their own. This will be explained during consultation meeting(s).
Where redundancies are necessary, a review will be carried out to evaluate if ‘bumping’ is appropriate. This is known as redundancy bumping, or transferred redundancy, which often happens when a more senior employee is prepared to take a more junior role to avoid redundancy. In the current economic climate, many employees may prefer a demoted post as opposed to facing an unspecified period of unemployment. During the consultation process we will explore whether you would be willing to consider a more junior role at a reduced salary.
