If you have been sick for 2 spells or more of at least 4 days in a row, with 8 weeks or fewer between them, they will be counted as one ‘Period of Incapacity for Work’. For example, if on week 1, you were sick for 5 days, SSP is only payable for the last 2 days of sickness, however, if you fell ill again on week 5 for another 6 days, then this new period is linked with the last period and SSP is payable for the whole 6 days of this new illness.
